================================================================ Title : hedgemaze Filename : hedgemaze.bsp Author(s) : Jason Abbott Email Address : jasona@brimstone.com Homepage : http://www.brimstone.com/quake2 Description : A small Action Quake level, good for free-for-all close combat. Works well with non-action mods as well. Installation : unzip to: Quake2\action Additional Credits to : ID Software for Quake2 ateam@telefragged.com for Action Quake Yahn Bernier for BSP The many online style/help pages for level editing, notably Rust and the BSPHQ. My playtesters Playtesters : Neal (Zond) Kaplan, Karl (Sun Ra) Bilawski, Geoff (Doozer) Webb, David (Zeke) Ziring Texture help: : Neal (Zond) Kaplan ================================================================ * Play Information * ---------------------------------------------------------------- Level Name : hedgemaze Single Player : nope, unless you got bots Cooperative 1-32 Player : no Deathmatch 2-32 Player : yes (although it gets rough with more than 8 players). Difficulty Settings : no max r_speeds : one room has corners that get to ~450 wpoly, the rest of the maze is <200, mostly <50. New Sounds : yes New Graphics : yes New Sky : yes Sound Track : none Demos Replaced : none .map Included : no Software needed to play : Quake2 registered version Software recommened : Action Quake ---------------------------------------------------------------- * Construction * ---------------------------------------------------------------- Base : new level Build Time : 3 nights Playtesting : 3 nights System Used : K6 233 w/64MB RAM Editor(s) used : BSP, Qbsp3, Qvis, Qrad (-bounce 40 -extra) other levels by the author : none Known Bugs : none What worked : 1) The maze does lend itself to close combat fun. 2) The frames-per-second were kept really low in the maze itself, and even in the five internal rooms. The outside room gets up to rspeeds of 450 when you stand in the far corners. 3) The "special" guests in the western portion of the maze. 4) Listening to the playtesters. What didn't work : 1) Outdoor sky. If I had more time I'd make a nice house to go infront of the maze. But I've spent enough time, I want to start a new one. 2) The sky starts at the top of the hedge maze walls. I did this to keep the FPS nice and low. But it means you can't do obvious things like throw the grenade over the hedge walls. 3) The sniper rifle in the maze is just a snub. This is a close combat maze, and it's cruel to taunt the sniper-types out there with a sniper rifle. 4) Only five weapons. This means that with 6+ people it's hard to get a weapon in action quake. Then again, at the close range that the maze forces you into, pistols and knives are effective too. ---------------------------------------------------------------- * Legal Stuff * ---------------------------------------------------------------- Authors may NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels.
